Actually this is a common misconception among all writers.
It is not <i>proper</i> to start a sentence with 'Because' or 'And', however, it most certainly can be done for emphasis in writing. Much in the same regard you cannot end a sentence in a preposition. We do anyway, just because the propriety of the English Language is just short of "gone".
